WhatsApp referral templates people actually forward

Referral programmes fail on the forward, not the offer. If the customer has to explain your product in their own words before pasting a link, most will not bother. Give them something already written.

The ask

Sent to an existing customer, so it is marketing and needs opt-in. Make the reward concrete and the effort near zero.

  • Hi {{name}}, enjoying your order from Kavya Jewellers? Share your code {{code}} with a friend. They get 10% off, you get 500 rupees credit. Reply STOP to opt out.
  • {{name}}, refer a friend to Aurora Studio and you both get a free month. Your link: {{link}}. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.

The forwardable message

This is the one that matters. Write the message your customer will forward, so all they do is press share.

  • I have been using Aurora Studio and thought of you. Use my link for a free month: {{link}}
  • Got my order from Kavya Jewellers and it was lovely. Use code {{code}} for 10% off your first one.

Write the forwardable text in the customer's voice, not your brand's. A forwarded message that reads like an advert gets ignored by the friend receiving it.

Making it measurable

Give each customer a unique code or link, otherwise you cannot tell referrals from ordinary traffic and the programme becomes impossible to justify.

Confirm the reward the moment it is earned. A referral that pays out silently, or weeks later, does not produce a second referral.

Frequently asked questions

Should the reward go to both sides?

Usually yes. A one-sided reward asks the customer to spend social capital for their own benefit, which most people are reluctant to do.

How do I track who referred whom?

Unique codes or links per customer, resolved when the friend arrives and written back to your CRM against the referrer.
